fashion spotlight

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
My name is Grace Lee. I am a junior currently studying journalism with a specialization in public relations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Besides being a full-time student, I am also the curator behind the fashion blog, Gracefullee Made. I started Gracefullee Made five years ago, in hopes to inspire not only myself, but also others through my personal style and life tidbits.

If you could sneak into anyone’s closet whose would you peek at?
Olivia Palermo. She never ceases to amaze me with her style.

What style rule do you always follow?
I don’t follow any style rule in particular because I like to expand my limits when it comes to fashion. One rule I do follow is preference and flattering first, trends second. To reiterate—I think it’s important to buy items that you like and what suit you first before indulging in trends.

What is your favorite quote?
“Life is tough my darling, but so are you.”

What inspired your blog?
I aspired to be a writer when I was younger, but I was also infatuated with fashion. In high school, I carried around a design book with sketches and trends that I would jot down. My friends and family encouraged me to blog about it, and so here I am. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Three things that are always in your purse?
iPhone, sticky notes, and a portable phone charger.

Where do you find inspiration for blog posts?
Pinterest, mistakes I make in life, other bloggers, and holidays

Best style advice you’ve ever given or received?
Best style advice I’ve ever received is to be original. It’s cliché, but it’s the most important advice that reminds me time and time again. You know yourself better than anyone, so listen to what you think is best when it comes to style. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, but also never forget what your standards are.

What’s the one thing in your closet that you couldn’t live without?
My leather jacket. I own several leather jackets, but it’s definitely an item that I could not live without.

In your opinion, what separates a great blog from an unsuccessful blog?
A great blog is consistent. Whether it’s content or style, the gist of the blog should always remain consistent. A great blog interacts with its readers and does its best to put aside enough time to bring every post to life. Meaning, hard work is shown through the content and every post is written in the best of its ability.
