4 Things Happening in Fashion for the Year 2015

1. Ear Cuffs: if you want to make it look like you have your ear pierced without getting it pierced, then you’re in luck! Ear cuffs are made to look super cute as an accessory and it tricks people into thinking you had enough guts to get that many piercings in one ear! These accessories are taking a stand this year so don’t be surprised when you see the trend rise to the top.

2. Statement Necklaces: these aren’t a new trend, but they certainly have taken their place at the top of the trend list for this year. They not only are gorgeous, but they somehow make every outfit look 10 times better. Next time you feel like you’re missing something, go pick up a statement piece from the local boutique and make sure you stock up!

3. Boyfriend Jeans: the wide-legged jeans have made a huge comeback this year, pairing them with a cute sweater and some heels give you the perfect cute but casual feel. Not to mention these jeans are a 10/10 on the comfort scale.

4. Off-the-Shoulder Sweaters: these sweaters have quickly taken off. Wearing a baggy sweater and slipping it off the shoulder helps you feel a lot more risqué even though you are just in a sweater and pairing them with a statement necklace and some boyfriend jeans would make the ultimate outfit this year!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?unnamed
My name is McKenna. I am a teacher and live outside of New Orleans, Louisiana with my husband.  It really is a fabulous place to grow up with all the good food, live music and no shortage of craziness! My dad owns men’s clothing stores here in Louisiana and growing up around classic, high quality clothing has definitely influenced the way I look at fashion.

If you could sneak into anyone’s closet whose would you peek at?
Most definitely Blake Lively’s closet.  I mean her style is always on point.

What style rule do you always follow?
I’m not much for rules, I feel as though fashion is unique to the individual and if you feel great in an outfit then by all means wear it!  With that being said, certain fabrics should be worn only in their proper seasons, like linen in the summer.

What is your favorite quote?
Audrey Hepburn’s “The happiest girls are the most beautiful girls.”  What a great reminder that beauty is on the inside.

What inspired your blog?
First of all, I’ve always loved clothes and like I mentioned earlier growing up with a dad that always looked like he stepped out of a magazine inspired me to explore my own sense of personal style.  Second, I’m a teacher and as much as I adore my little students blogging is a great creative outlet to connect with so many women and allow my creativity to grow outside the classroom.HV2grXt

Three things that are always in your purse?
My wallet, hand cream, and phone of course!

Where do you find inspiration for blog posts?
Magazines mostly

Best style advice you’ve ever given or received?
My dad’s motto is “Quality is economy.”  He repeated that all the time to us growing up and the older I have gotten I really do appreciate quality made clothing, shoes and accessories.  It might cost a bit more to buy the higher end item but it will outlast all the fast fashion and hold up for years to come.  In the end you save money by investing in quality pieces that are not going to fall apart after one season.

What’s the one thing in your closet that you couldn’t live without?
My Equipment silk blouse.   It is the perfect piece to dress up or down and layer on top of.

In your opinion, what separates a great blog from an unsuccessful blog?
I’ve only been blogging for almost a year, but consistency has to be one of the biggest aspects to keep your audience engaged and coming back.

Fashion Mistakes You May Be Making

You would never pair black and navy

It has become a sort of unwritten rule in the book of fashion no-no’s that you should never pair the two colors together since they are so similar. Well, that talk stops now! Black and navy surprisingly look great together. Pairing a navy sweater with a black leather skirt and black opaque tights like this one here looks amazing.

You think shorts can only be worn in the summer season

Secret’s out, shorts can actually be worn year round as long as you have the correct pairings to protect yourself from criticism and the cold. Try wearing a bold colored pair of shorts, with a long sleeved sweater, some tights (patterned or plain depending on the outfit), throw a scarf on, some heels, and you have a look just like this girl.

You’re convinced long hair is sexier than short hair

It’s been told since we were all little girls that men like long hair, it gives them something to run their fingers through. But the truth is, some women don’t look good with long hair, they look better with a short look, like Scarlett Johansson . She rocks the short hair. Don’t be afraid to go bold!

You always buy the same size in clothing

It should be common knowledge that different brands may vary in the way that they fit you, or the way that they fall on the body. Unfortunately, not a lot of people know this and often buy the same size in every brand, which works against you. The cheaper brands tend to run a lot larger, so don’t be afraid if you’re a small and suddenly you don’t fit into the small size.

Denim Trends for Spring

Untitled design (38)

After watching the Super Bowl halftime show with Katy Perry and getting a surprise visit from the one and only Missy Elliot, it almost felt like we were sent into a time capsule. Furthermore, seeing that gas prices have miraculously fallen to a record $1.97 its almost like we have to pinch ourselves. After taking a look at the current fashion trends of 2015, we are happy to say that denim has made its way back on track to bring the comeback of the 90s in full circle.

Yes that’s right ladies and gents, denim is back! Look no further for denim advice, for here you will find the 3 top trending denim styles:

Distressed jeans: lots of different styles of distressed jeans are adorable. You can go with the baggy boyfriend jean, the skinny jeans with slits, or the distressed jeans that are holed vs. frayed spots. The best part about distressed jeans is that you can make them yourself. Find a pair of your mom’s old jeans or your boyfriend’s old jeans and take a cheese grater to the surface where you want the holes to go and wa-la!There you have it, one of the cutest trends for this season!

Jean jackets: if you don’t have one, go get yourself one. This is denim that never really went completely out of style; it was still acceptable to wear. However, now with the current comeback of denim, having a jean jacket is a necessity. Pairing it with a chambray shirt and some skinny jeans is the perfect go-to outfit for everyday errands.

High waist: The waist-defining silhouette is both sexy and sophisticated. Wear this with a crop top or a tucked-in shirt. Then add heels to elongate your legs, leaving you looking about 3 inches taller, perfect, right? Make sure you stock up before everyone realizes the secret’s out!

Welcome back the old trends with open arms, who knows what will be next!

Our Favorite Looks at the 2015 SAG Awards!

There were some amazing looking outfits at the SAG Awards this year, everyone looked gorgeous! It was hard, but we narrowed down our top three favorites from the night.

1. Sofia Vergara – Was it hot at the SAG Awards? Nope, pretty sure it was just Sofia Vergada. She looked amazing in her red Donna Karan Atelier gown (that he new Fiance Joe Manganiello loved helped her pick out). No one could have pulled off that dress better than her! We love you Sofia! sofia-vergar2. Julie Bowen – Another favorite of ours also is from the Modern Family Cast! How pretty did Julie Bowen look in her gown? The actress wore an embellished dress from Georges Hobeika Couture with a Rauwolf clutch. The dress is very girly and the embroidery is beautiful. Can’t wait for the next awards show! The Red Carpet never fails us, keep it up women of Hollywood!
