My name is Hayley and I created Daily Dose of Darling, a personal style, home decor, and beauty blog. My hope is to share with others the things and moments in life that make me the happiest, while creating an inspirational space that welcomes all personal style.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?I’ve been blogging on Daily Dose of Darling for about a year now and have loved every second of it! Being able to collaborate with some amazing brands and meet many inspiring people along the way has only encouraged me in sharing my journey with personal style, home decor, and beauty. I just moved to Los Angeles with my boyfriend Doug from Orange County and so far, exploring LA has been incredible! My hope is to share with others the things and moments in life that make me the happiest, while creating an inspirational space that welcomes all personal style.
If you could sneak into anyone’s closet whose would you peek at? I’d like to bend the rules on this question and say Betty Draper from Mad Men. For as long as I can remember I’ve been infatuated with the 1950s and everything that goes along with the era. The fashion, picturesque way of life, and overall classical elements has me smitten. I’ve really grown up aspiring to embrace my femininity and with that come timeless structures, colorful pieces, and a ladylike appearance that Betty always emulates.
What style rule do you always follow? Just because something is “on trend” doesn’t mean it is suitable for everyone. I’ve learned this the hard way and its clear when you look back at some of my original blog posts in 2013. Wear what you feel most comfortable in and your personal style will come as a natural extension of that.
What is your favorite quote?“The more you believe in your own ability to succeed, the more likely it is that you will.” -Shawn Achor
What inspired your blog? I wanted people to come to a place where charm, beauty, and femininity come to life. To take aspects of each of our lives and make them something that we are proud of is a thrilling and exciting endeavour we should all strive for. For many people that could mean different things, but for me, it’s through indulging in the little things that make me the happiest: fashion, lifestyle, home decor, and beauty.
Where do you find inspiration for blog posts? I love to find inspiration through looking back to different eras in time.Ever since I was a little girl my style has been feminine. I probably only wear jeans when the weather is cold and it’s absolutely necessary, but other than that, my closet if filled with floral print dresses, high waisted skirts, and lace. I think the biggest way my style has evolved is that I’m not as quick to follow trends as I used to be. I now take certain pieces from each era and make them my own. I am more inclined to look for pieces that have a certain feminine flare that make them truly unique, rather than what celebrity wore it last on the red carpet or to buy groceries.
Best style advice you’ve ever given or received? Wear what you feel most confident in and what flatters your body shape the best and you’ll look like a million bucks.
What’s the one thing in your closet that you couldn’t live without? This was truly a tough question to answer because there are so many pieces I can’t let go of. For many it’s a memory tied to a particular dress or a pair of shoes you’ve walked miles in, but for me it has to be my favorite scarf my friend got for me in Paris. It’s not just an ordinary scarf. I swear it has magical powers. Every time I have worn it in the past, something good has come of out that day. I’ve aced two job interviews in it, met my current boyfriend, and have countless other memorable encounters. I try not to wear it too much though, so the luck doesn’t run out!
In your opinion, what separates a great blog from an unsuccessful blog? Being able for a blogger to truly find their voice, which is still hard for me to this day separates a great blog from an unsuccessful one. So many blogs are trying to become the next best thing and often times it comes through in their posts. Looking at other bloggers for inspiration is great, but find what makes you unique and expose that as much as possible.
