Love your Lips!

As the seasons change and the weather gets cooler, taking proper care of lips can be a bit of a struggle. We tend to lose moisture in our lips during the colder months, which leaves them looking cracked and dry when we apply our favorite fun lipstick. With the holidays just around the corner, and New Years shortly after that, going bold with lipstick color is a must! That being said, we want to ensure that all you lovelies have conditioned, smooth, and perfectly colored in lips for when you make take those “kissy-face” pictures! Here’s some advice on keeping taking care of your lips and making sure your color sticks!

Prep: The first step to any lip care routine is proper preparation. Especially in the colder months of fall, be sure to love your lips with extra moisture, no matter what product you use. If you still can’t seem to get rid of that chapped-lips feeling, try brushing your lips with an old toothbrush to exfoliate. Then presume to adding a moisturizer on top for that silky smooth feel!

Choose your shade: We aren’t lying when we say that there is a color out there for everyone. We believe that makeup is supposed to complement your natural beauty, that’s why sticking to shades that complement your skin tone are crucial. Talk to one of the beauty stylists at in the cosmetic department, as they will know what colors and what undertones will match you best. If you’re one who is selective when it comes to lipstick color (don’t worry, we are too), a cosmetician will definitely be able to help you narrow down your choices and point you in the right direction, depending on what color you’re exactly looking for.

Line ‘em up: Lip liner is a great way to accentuate the boldness of your lipstick. Lip liner is the adhesion for your lipstick/lip gloss so it sticks and STAYS. It also acts as a barrier for your lipstick to not venture outside the lines. Make sure your liner matches your lipstick, though! Another alternative is to very lightly use a natural colored lip liner if you can’t find one that matches your lipstick color. Lastly, use a Vaseline coated Q-tip to sharpen up your lips edges of any escaping color.

Apply with care: There is no set and stone way to apply lipstick. It all depends on what is most comfortable for you, and what look you’re going for. However, there is one universal rule we can all agree on: apply with care! We don’t want anyone walking out of the house with a tooth lipstick stain! Once you’ve applied your lipstick, make an “O” with your mouth, and then pull your finger through to remove any lipstick on your inner lips. Your pearly whites will remain sparkling all day long!

Fall Nail Polish Trends

There are so many great things come with the fall season. We get to say hello to pumpkin spice lattes, cozy sweaters, and warm fireplaces yet nothing sets the fall season tone like a fresh new manicure. So out with those bright summer colors and in with the subtle nudes, reds, navy blues, and browns. The weather isn’t the only thing get colder this fall. Our nail colors should follow this same cooling trend, as traditionally, fall is the time where the dark and tranquil colors are preferred more than the light & bright. To make sure that your fall outfits are 100% complete, offset your look with these fall nail polish colors!

  1. Blood Red. You don’t have to save the red nail polish for the just the holidays. A classic twist on the traditional red, such as a rich and deep red, is perfect for Fall. This sophisticated color looks great on just about anyone and is a great statement addition to any outfit.

  1. Navy Blue. Navy gives off that classic, clean, and chic look. It’s a cooler color that is also neutral and goes with just about anything. Although it is not as dark as the original black, navy emphasizes confidence and elegance no matter what the occasion is.

  1. Nude. Simple, clean, and classy. Need we say more? Nude is great for when bold color is not an option. For our school girls, our working girls, and for those who just like having that clean look, you can never go wrong by choosing nude shades.

  1. Hunter green. Get in touch with nature and show off a deep, hunter green this fall. With one look down at your nails you’ll instantly feel like you’re out in the woods enjoying the crispy fall weather! Dark green is another one of those colors that goes with practically everything. We love wearing it with dark jeans, a cream sweater, and boots!

  1. Plums & purples. Girly with just the right amount of edge. These colors add a perfect “glam” look for either day or night.

  1. Chocolate-y browns. We absolutely love brown polishes for fall! These strong and elegant shades work well with any skin tone. We like to pair a deep brown with a gold glitter/metallic accent on our ring-finger nail for a little extra bling.

  1. Metallic. If the other colors weren’t eye catching enough for you, try dressing your nails up with metallic and gold colors. We like to think of metallic polish as bold and classy. A little glitter never hurt anybody!

Simple (and cute) DIY Halloween Costumes

Halloween is just around the corner, and we know that with school, extracurricular activities, work, and the process of looking fabulous, you may be worried about not having enough time to find the perfect Halloween costume. But don’t worry, Kandy Kiss has got your back! We know what it’s like to not have enough time to put together an outfit. We also know that you probably like to make a fashion statement with bold new clothes and accessories. However, just remember you can never go wrong with the classics. So this year, we came up with a few original, trendy, and easy costumes you can DIY last minute.

Here are the 4 DIY costumes we came up with:

  1. Cowgirl: with some blue jean shorts, cowboy boots, a flannel, and your hair in braids, you can go from costume-less to a cute country cowgirl! Be sure to add a cowgirl hat for the finishing touch.
  1. Cat: The simplest, and most classic Halloween costume. First you’ll need some black clothes (i.e. a black dress, skirt, top, jumpsuit, etc). To top it off, draw some whiskers and a nose on your face. Also, let’s not forget cat ears and maybe even a tail! Feel free to add some red lipstick and personalize your costume with one of Kandy Kisses’ fur vests. You’ll look purrrrfect!
  1. Tourist. Another classic Halloween costume that never fails! As a tourist, all you need is a fanny pack, some type of Hawaiian or button up shirt, shorts, and some sneakers! To get more into the touristy role, throw on a visor or baseball hat, a map to stick in your pocket, and some binoculars and you’re set to go.
  1. Schoolgirl. The schoolgirl costume is a go-to for any sort of costume party. It’s original, distinct, and definitely recognizable! For this look, we chose Serena Van der Woodsen, aka Blake Lively, as our inspiration. Pair any white collared shirt with a plaid skirt, a tie, and some flats. Converse or even boots work well too. However, if you live in a colder area, you can even add a sweater like Blake did. Can’t tie a tie? You can always wear scarf instead.
