2015 Beauty New Years Resolutions

In just less than a week, the New Year will making its grand entrance and before you know it 2014 is completely over. One thing we LOVE about beauty and fashion is that it is ever evolving. In addition to your personal New Years resolutions, Kandy Kiss has another challenge for you: Beauty Resolutions. Like other areas of your life, be bold with your beauty and come up with a few resolutions that you would like to work on. Maybe you want to be bolder with your lipstick shades, or even try wearing plaid even though you swore your favorite pattern would always be floral. For inspiration, here are some of our beauty resolutions for 2015:

  1. Upgrade your product. We know that people say if something’s not broken, there’s no need to fix it. However, Kandy Kiss is a firm believer in trying something new. Have you been using the same foundation for the past couple of years? Do you never stray from your favorite brand of shampoo? There are certain beauty products specialized for almost any age and any skin type. We know that straying from your favorite products is scary, but the good news is that you can always go back to them! For 2015, we encourage to upgrade your products and try something new for a change! Who knows, you may just find your new favorite.
  1. We beauty dare you. At LEAST once a month, dare yourself to a beauty dare. On a night out with the girls, why not use some hair chalk and give yourself some pink highlights for a fun, new change? On a day at work, maybe add in an elaborate hairpiece to give your hair some adornment. For a school day, try using a different colored eyeliner instead of just black all the time (we love navy—it brings everyone’s eye color!). Whatever you choose to do, do it with confidence, you got this girl!
  2. Take extra care to the hair. Telling you to leave behind and move on from your blow dryer, hair curler, and straightener is a sin would we never commit. Thus, make a point to take extra care of your hair in 2015. Invest in some regular trims or even deep-conditioning treatments especially during the winter months when your hair tends to be at its frailest. Your luscious locks will thank you!
  1. Save the date. For those of us who put on makeup daily and for those of us who apply it for special occasions only, keep in mind the expiration dates. For example, you should use the same tube of mascara for about 3 months max. Additionally, you should make a point to wash your makeup brushes at least once a month. Depending on what beauty products you use most, take the time to research how long you should keep them for.

Ready, set, STAY!

It’s happened to all of us…you get off the phone with your best friend just to look at your screen and see a mark of your foundation smeared all over your screen. Or what about when you go to hug your Grandma for the first time in months and suddenly the blush that was on your cheeks is now on hers.  For those gals that go to school from 7am-4pm, those who work the same amount of hours, and those who just want a way to have their makeup last and stay where its supposed to, Kandy Kiss has got you covered.

Besides having really long workdays and busy schedules, the holidays always call for long-lasting makeup hacks. Here are our favorite four:

  1. Primer: Primers are an absolute necessity when it comes to ever-lasting makeup. They work by helping decrease sweating through the pores, which will make your makeup stay on much longer. Primers will also help smooth your skin for when you apply foundation or powder, then will continue to protect that gorgeous face of yours from dust or debris or water that may make your makeup wear off.
  1. Choosing the right kind of foundation. With so many different skin types and sensitivities out there, finding a universal foundation is pretty difficult. It’s important to know what type of skin you have. Are you prone to oiliness? Is your skin super sensitive? These types of questions will help you narrow down what kind of foundation will be a good fit for you. If you tend to have oily skin, opt for an “oil-free” foundation. Otherwise, if you add oil-based foundation to oily skin, you’ll only get more oil, and that will make your makeup come off more easily.
  1. Brushes, not hands. Your hands carry natural oils in them, so if you directly apply foundation with your hands, it won’t set as well. Brushes will solve this problem for you. However, it’s important to know that you should NOT use the same brush for everything. Keep separate brushes for your foundation, blush, and bronzer. The same goes for your eye shadow. Apply eye shadow using brushes. Small brushes will be good for placing intense color in direct, specific spots while larger brushes will spread out color more evenly.
  1. Setting spray. Using setting spray is one of the best things you use for some serious staying power. It works by lowering the temperature of your makeup so your foundation, eye shadow, concealer, and blush all stay in place no matter what condition you are in! Say goodbye to the cracking, fading, and melting and hello to the bold, smooth, and vibrant makeup you have been waiting for.

Fashion Spotlight on Rachel Ross

Tell us a bit of background information about yourself?10838742_765046976865892_1008298698_n My name is Rachel, and my blog is www.TheRachelRoss.com. I started blogging almost 4 years ago! I’m young, but I’m a business owner and a mom so my style has evolved since I originally started my blog. It’s been a fun journey and it’s interesting to be able to go back and see how much my style has changed over the years.
What inspired your blog? What makes it unique and fresh? My personal style has become the main focus of my blog. It started as a blog about pretty much anything and everything, but over the years it has found its niche. I am a mother of two and I blogged throughout my entire pregnancy the second time so I gained a whole new following of young moms and moms-to-be. I never sacrificed my style because I became a mom and I think that helps me stand out.
How does one get your attention for a feature? I have a pretty good handle on the things that I like, especially when it comes to my style. I love playing with textures and fabrics, I’ll pretty much wear anything with leather or (faux) fur, so I love brands that have a little edge to them.
Could you describe your personal style? Feminine, edgy, and relaxed. I grew up and live at the beach, so down here there is a certain sense of comfort that comes with fashion, we’re definitely a more easy going community. However, we’re so close to New York City that we have to be able to up our game at a moments notice! I love black, but I’m not afraid to play with color either.
818e081adef9f7952543340824231146Where do you find the inspiration for your personal style? Like I said I’m close to the city, so it’s really easy to get wrapped up in what’s “trending,” but I try not to follow them too closely. I know what looks good on me and more importantly, what makes me feel good. That being said, I have a lot of fun taking styles that are trendy and putting my own personal twist on it.
Every girl has their favorite “go-to” pieces tucked away in their close. What are your “go-to” pieces?
My classic black or nude Louboutins! They’re surprisingly comfortable and go with just about everything I own. I also have a cropped faux fur vest I wear with pretty much everything for as long as I can! My leather leggings and Jimmy Choo moto boots are always on heavy rotation as well during the cooler months!
Since we’re already deep in fall, what are your favorite seasonal pieces this year for cold weather? I live in flannel! Every time I shop I buy something else that’s flannel or plaid, it’s seriously become a problem! I make sure the pieces are versatile and not a one and done kind of wear, so that usually makes me feel a little better, ha! I also love my fur vest and my boots!
Do you have a guilty pleasure that you splurge on when you shop? If so, what is it and why?153bed7a3636a9bbedc7e2a5ede1d9ed SHOES! I often tend to buy clothes at stores like H&M because, let’s be serious, I have two kids, who knows how long my clothes will last. Shoes, on the other hand, I will spend an entire paycheck on. And bags. Shoes and bags hold a very special place in my heart.
What fashion rules do you abide by when putting an outfit together? Don’t worry about what’s trending so much, wear what makes you feel good. If you’re not comfortable in your own skin everyone can tell, so it won’t matter what you’re wearing. Be confident and feel good in your outfit and you will always look amazing!

All That Glitters

Happy week of Thanksgiving! Last week for our Fashion Files, we gave you some inspiration on how to embrace your natural, true beauty and let it shine! This week we also wanted to give you some extra beauty glow by encouraging you to get in the holiday spirit with glitter. Glitter is one of our favorite accessories, especially during the holidays. If you feel like spicing things up this Thanksgiving (and no we are not talking about adding an extra pump of spice to your PSL), leave a little sparkle wherever you go incorporating these Glitter hacks to your Thanksgiving style our 4 simple ways:

  1. Glitter eye shadow. One of the simplest, most affordable, and trendy chic ways to add some sparkle to your style is through glitter eyeshadow. You can go dark and mysterious with a shimmery smokey eye, or delicate and enchanting with neutral glitter colors such as white, silver, or gold. When it comes to eye glitter, you really have two options. The first is to pick a shimmery eye shadow that is tinted to your color of choice, or you can get loose glitter to apply on top of your natural eyelid, or even on top of your favorite eye shadow. The choice is up to you and whatever you prefer! If you’re looking for some extra shine, apply both! Go ahead, we won’t tell anyone your secret!
  1. Glitter nail polish. Remember when bedazzling only one nail out of your 5 was the thing? Well, it still is! Especially during the holidays. But why limit all the glam and attention to only one nail? Why not get a full on glitter manicure? The truth is you totally can, and it is beyond trendy. We are girls, and we love glitter. Mind as well embrace it! However, if all glitter is a bit much, we get that too. You do you girl, and simply pick the type of glitter polish, whether it be bold or subtle, that works for you!
  1. Glitter lip gloss. Okay, we know what you’re thinking. And no, we are not saying dump a can of glitter on your lips! Instead, try out a lipstick or lip gloss with a little extra sparkle. If you can’t find a color that you absolutely love, clear glitter is just as eye catching. No one will be able to turn away from those lips of yours, because well, glitter is simply mesmerizing. Be prepared to keep the chitchat going all night long!
  1. Glitter lotion. Again, we understand what you are thinking. We know you don’t want to show up at your Thanksgiving party looking like a real life disco ball, and we promise, you won’t. Glitter lotion is a nice way to add a little shimmer to your look while being extremely subtle about it. Wearing a sleeveless dress? Apply some glitter lotion on your arms and legs for a natural glow. Did we mention how great glitter lotion smells? It’s like the glitter gods really knew what they were doing with this one. Talk about conquering two things at once!

Be(YOU)tiful

As Thanksgiving and the holidays are rapidly approaching, think of all of the things that you are grateful for. Think of your health, your beauty (inside and out), and all of the love and affection that surrounds you. Surely you will have some holiday parties to attend, and with that comes finding the perfect sparkly outfit, the perfect updo, and the perfect shade of lipstick and shoes to match. As girls, it’s easy to get caught up in our external beauty, but it’s important to know that we don’t need to! Each and every one of us possesses a unique internal beauty unlike anyone else. That’s what makes us who we are, not solely the outfits we wear. So this week at Kandy Kiss, we want to bring you some of our favorite and empowering beauty quotes to keep your priorities in order:

1. Marc Jacobs: “I always find beauty in things that are odd & imperfect–they are much more interesting.”

unnamed-1

2. Coco Channel: “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.”

unnamed-2

3. Audrey Hepburn: “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others. For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness. And for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

unnamed-3

4. Sophia Loren: “Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.”

unnamed-4

5. Miley Cyrus: “Imperfections equal beauty. We’re all imperfect.”

unnamed-5

Beauty can be defined in so many ways to a numerous amount of people. Now don’t get us wrong, we aren’t saying don’t buy the shoes that take your Thanksgiving dinner dress to the next level. We just want you to remember that exterior looks are not so important in the grand scheme of things. We know it’s easy to get caught up in the glam life, and we’re here to keep you grounded and remind of you to just be you without the external pressure. So this week, everyone here at Kandy Kiss encourages you to cultivate and think about all of the beautiful things in life that you are thankful for, and to remember that although it is fun to get dress up and dazzle everyone with your perfectly pinned hair, red lips, and your little black (holiday) dress, keep in mind that nothing shines brighter, and is more beautiful, than a grateful heart.

Our Favorite F Word… Fur.

Just because we have to start bundling up for the colder months ahead does not mean we have to sacrifice fashion. This fall, be sure stay cozy and cute with some faux fur. At Kandy Kiss, we love all things fur! It’s playful yet sophisticated, and best of all, so warm and comfortable. We like to think of faux fur fashion as almost wearing your favorite blanket around you, yet you still look fashionable and trendy. We know that faux fur isn’t for everyone, but we still encourage you to give it a shot! You just might end up falling in love with it like we have.

Here are some ways to incorporate faux fur into your wardrobe:

Fur vest: A great accessory to any outfit, fur vests should be your new best friend this season. Perfect for putting over your night-out dress or adding the final touch to your sweater, jeans and boots, fur vests are the look for this fall that you won’t want to miss out on.

Fur scarves: Scarves will never go out of style during the cold months, which is why you need to get a fur scarf pronto! Pair a fur scarf with your favorite pair of leggings and shirt, or dress it up more with a dress and coat. Not only will it keep you nice and warm, but you will also look so chic and fab, you’ll be turning heads all night. There’s something majestic and sophisticated about fur, and we just can’t get enough of it!

A hint of fur: Maybe fur jackets, fur vest, and fur scarves just aren’t your thing. However, if you still like the coziness of fur without having to endulge yourself in it, there are many trendy styles out there that would be perfect for your taste. Try out a vest or a jacket with a hint of fur on its hood. Even better most of the time this fur can be removable with a quick unzip of a zipper.

Earmuffs: Another way to incorporate faux fur into your daily wardrobe is through a simple headband accessory! We think earmuffs are just so darn cute, and will find any excuse to wear them. Grandma always said that if your head is covered and warm, you’re warm. However, with faux fur earmuffs, you no longer have to sacrifice stylish for warmth. Whether you’re snowboarding down the mountain, walking to class, or taking a stroll in the park on a chilly day, keep a pair of fur earmuffs in close reach.

Braids of Fall

Happy November beauties! Our favorite month is finally here, and this week we want to share with you our contagious love affair with braided hairstyles! Braids are a great way to perfect your hairstyle when you don’t have enough time to squeeze in a luscious blow out or actually sit down and curl (or straighten) your hair. So without further ado, check out our compilation of trendy braided hairstyles that will complement all aspects of your fall wardrobe.

Side Fishtail

It doesn’t get much more simple than this! Just grab a good amount of hair on the side of your head and fish tail (or braid) your hair down the center for a little added touch to your perfect mane. We love wearing this hairstyle to school, to the gym, and even to work. It works for everything!

Fishtail Crown

Fishtail Crown

A different take on the braided crown, this hairstyle is just as simple. Fishtail two separate braids, wrap them into a crown, and secure them with bobby pins.

Braided Messy Bun

Braided Messy Bun

Messy buns are still in, but with a little added twist of a side braid! First braid one strand of your hair, and then pin back into your messy bun. You’ll get that effortless yet trendy and cute look in just a matter of minutes.

Knotted Side Braid

Knotted Side Braid

It doesn’t get much more simple than a knotted side braid and you definitely do not need to be a hair guru for this. Simply sweep your hair to one side and begin by knotting your hair. Keep knotting until you’ve reached your desired braid lengthDone!

French Braid/Fishtail Hybrid

French Braid/Fishtail Hybrid

Another twist on the traditional French braid, this hairstyle involved two separate braids (French and fishtail) that mesh into one. First, start off with a French braid along one side of your head. Once you get to where your head meets your neck, combine the French braid into a fishtail braid that will extend down the side of your neck. Have fun with it!

Three Rules to survive the Fall Season

So much goes into a girl’s outfit. We have to find the perfect pair of trousers, to match the cutest lace top, and somehow make sure they match our funky boots. But then, what about our makeup? Our makeup should obviously correspond with what we’re wearing…I mean blue lipstick probably shouldn’t be worn with mustard-yellow. We get it, fashion and beauty can get complicated. But we are here to help you get by this season:

  1.    Be Bold with Beauty.

Fall is officially here and the transition into the season can be simple but you mustn’t be afraid to be bold with your beauty. Invest in a fiery red or deep cabernet color for the lipstick and nail details. Or if you’re feeling risky, go for an edgier look. You can always turn to the dark side and go with indigo, onyx, charcoal, or a classy black nail polish. More importantly, ditch the fruity fragrances and invest in a spicy perfume to really set the mood this season, one of our favorite perfumes this season is Givenchy Dahlia Divin, a deep and sultry mix of Jasmin.

  1. Remain Fixated on Plaid.

Plaid is forever an ongoing trend throughout the fall and winter months. Instead of pairing your favorite plaid top with a cute crop top and jeans, switch it up and wrap the plaid flannel around your waist for an effortless grunge look. Or you can always invest in plaid to accessorize and add flavor to your all black or gray outfit. P.S. Plaid boots are the latest fashion statement.

  1. Stay Cute in Suede.

Suede is the go-to  texture to compliment any outfit this Fall. Whether you’re going for the BOHO bum, metallic Rock Star, or chic business woman, adding suede to your outfit screams Fall. We plan on investing in suede boots, hats, and even pants for texture and sass.

Love your Lips!

As the seasons change and the weather gets cooler, taking proper care of lips can be a bit of a struggle. We tend to lose moisture in our lips during the colder months, which leaves them looking cracked and dry when we apply our favorite fun lipstick. With the holidays just around the corner, and New Years shortly after that, going bold with lipstick color is a must! That being said, we want to ensure that all you lovelies have conditioned, smooth, and perfectly colored in lips for when you make take those “kissy-face” pictures! Here’s some advice on keeping taking care of your lips and making sure your color sticks!

Prep: The first step to any lip care routine is proper preparation. Especially in the colder months of fall, be sure to love your lips with extra moisture, no matter what product you use. If you still can’t seem to get rid of that chapped-lips feeling, try brushing your lips with an old toothbrush to exfoliate. Then presume to adding a moisturizer on top for that silky smooth feel!

Choose your shade: We aren’t lying when we say that there is a color out there for everyone. We believe that makeup is supposed to complement your natural beauty, that’s why sticking to shades that complement your skin tone are crucial. Talk to one of the beauty stylists at in the cosmetic department, as they will know what colors and what undertones will match you best. If you’re one who is selective when it comes to lipstick color (don’t worry, we are too), a cosmetician will definitely be able to help you narrow down your choices and point you in the right direction, depending on what color you’re exactly looking for.

Line ‘em up: Lip liner is a great way to accentuate the boldness of your lipstick. Lip liner is the adhesion for your lipstick/lip gloss so it sticks and STAYS. It also acts as a barrier for your lipstick to not venture outside the lines. Make sure your liner matches your lipstick, though! Another alternative is to very lightly use a natural colored lip liner if you can’t find one that matches your lipstick color. Lastly, use a Vaseline coated Q-tip to sharpen up your lips edges of any escaping color.

Apply with care: There is no set and stone way to apply lipstick. It all depends on what is most comfortable for you, and what look you’re going for. However, there is one universal rule we can all agree on: apply with care! We don’t want anyone walking out of the house with a tooth lipstick stain! Once you’ve applied your lipstick, make an “O” with your mouth, and then pull your finger through to remove any lipstick on your inner lips. Your pearly whites will remain sparkling all day long!

Fall Nail Polish Trends

There are so many great things come with the fall season. We get to say hello to pumpkin spice lattes, cozy sweaters, and warm fireplaces yet nothing sets the fall season tone like a fresh new manicure. So out with those bright summer colors and in with the subtle nudes, reds, navy blues, and browns. The weather isn’t the only thing get colder this fall. Our nail colors should follow this same cooling trend, as traditionally, fall is the time where the dark and tranquil colors are preferred more than the light & bright. To make sure that your fall outfits are 100% complete, offset your look with these fall nail polish colors!

  1. Blood Red. You don’t have to save the red nail polish for the just the holidays. A classic twist on the traditional red, such as a rich and deep red, is perfect for Fall. This sophisticated color looks great on just about anyone and is a great statement addition to any outfit.

unnamed-5

  1. Navy Blue. Navy gives off that classic, clean, and chic look. It’s a cooler color that is also neutral and goes with just about anything. Although it is not as dark as the original black, navy emphasizes confidence and elegance no matter what the occasion is.

unnamed-4

  1. Nude. Simple, clean, and classy. Need we say more? Nude is great for when bold color is not an option. For our school girls, our working girls, and for those who just like having that clean look, you can never go wrong by choosing nude shades.

unnamed-3

  1. Hunter green. Get in touch with nature and show off a deep, hunter green this fall. With one look down at your nails you’ll instantly feel like you’re out in the woods enjoying the crispy fall weather! Dark green is another one of those colors that goes with practically everything. We love wearing it with dark jeans, a cream sweater, and boots!

unnamed-2

  1. Plums & purples. Girly with just the right amount of edge. These colors add a perfect “glam” look for either day or night.

unnamed-1

  1. Chocolate-y browns. We absolutely love brown polishes for fall! These strong and elegant shades work well with any skin tone. We like to pair a deep brown with a gold glitter/metallic accent on our ring-finger nail for a little extra bling.

unnamed

  1. Metallic. If the other colors weren’t eye catching enough for you, try dressing your nails up with metallic and gold colors. We like to think of metallic polish as bold and classy. A little glitter never hurt anybody!
